School Council

At Heatherlands we are proud of our School Council as it represents the views and opinions of the most important people in the School, our children.

Children from each year group are democratically chosen at the start of a new year by their classmates to represent the views of the whole class at the council meetings.  It is a great compliment to children who are chosen and they really thrive on the trust placed in them.

During the year, the Council take part in a variety of activities which help to provide information about the well-being of our children and how to make our school an even better place to learn.

The school council meet every other Friday.

At our most recent meeting, we have set out some clear targets for the year for the council to achieve:

  • Introduce a suggestion box for other children to communicate with the council to inform the subjects we are discussing.
  • Improve play equipment and playtime environment for all children in the school, especially junior playground.
  • Improve understanding of anti-bullying and provide a system to help prevent it, eg. playground buddies.
  • Raise funds for new equipment or a designated charity.
  • Regular assemblies and talks with classes and all year groups.
