Year 5 have had fun researching all about the 5 oceans of the world today on World Oceans Day (8th June every year). We have had an assembly where we learnt some devastating statistics about how much plastic is in our oceans, and how much damage it can cause. We also then looked at how we as individuals, and the large multi-national companies in the world, can make a change and try to help reduce the amount of plastic waste that is found in our oceans and on our beaches.
We have researched into the 5 major oceans, and also looked at the different types of wildlife that can be found at different depths in the ocean. We will be encouraging out families to use less plastic when we get home!
In addition, we talked about Shark Awareness Day, which is on 14th July. We discussed how these creatures are often misunderstood and misrepresented in the media and how we can take care of them as well as the turtles, jellyfish and dolphins etc.
