Dorset School Games Virtual Competitions

Thank you to everyone who entered the Cricket and Gymnastics virtual competitions. Results and certificates will be following within the next few days.

The Football and Tennis virtual competitions are now open to all children, those in school as well as those at home, until 10th July. Children currently attending school will not be able to have the opportunity to complete these in school time, due to restrictions on equipment usage, but everybody is encouraged to enter from home using any equipment they have available (e.g. a ball of socks acts as a perfect ball!). All instructions and step-by-step guidance can be found in the pdf documents (links below). There is an easy Google form to send off your results. It is a fun and easy way to keep children active and burn off some energy during this stage of lockdown! Heatherlands would love to get as many entries as possible!

School Games Mark 2020

We are delighted to be awarded with a special version of the School Games Mark this year, as the full School Games programme could not be fulfilled in any school this year, due to the restrictions. We have received the School Games Recognition Award 2019/20 for our engagement with School Games and commitment to PE over the Autumn and Spring terms.

With this School Games Recognition Award, we will also be retaining our 2018/19 School Games Gold Mark for the next academic year.

Thank you to everybody who has helped us to achieve these awards this academic year: children, parents and the wider community!

We are looking forward to working towards our 2020/21 School Games Mark!

DSG Virtual Pentathlon

EXCITING, NEW OPPORTUNITY - Home Pentathlon Virtual Competition

There is a very exciting, new opportunity, launched by Dorset School Games, which Heatherlands will be taking part in and we are hoping to include as many of our children as possible.

The Home Pentathlon Virtual Competition is based around the format of Indoor Athletics, which has been adapted to be COVID-19 safe for students working from home, as well as the children working at school. We will be endeavouring to complete this challenge with all children who are attending school every day from 1st June and we hope that as many children as possible who are working at home will also take part. It is fun, easy and requires no specialist equipment!

Simply, open the pdf document and click each step to show the guidance and take you through the process of doing each of the 5 disciplines to submitting your results. The focus is on as many children in Dorset participating as possible, rather than the results they get. (There is also a section involving adapted activities for children who may find the core activities too tricky.) We look forward to hearing about everybody's successes with their Virtual Home Pentathlon! HAVE FUN!

The closing date for submitting results is 12th June.

Get set 4 PE have set up parent access to their PE resources. We use these resources in all our PE lessons at Heatherlands.

As we all know, keeping active during isolation is as important as ever to keep our bodies working properly and our brains functioning at tip-top standard.

To help you with this, our Poole School Games Organiser has developed some fun games, resources, challenges and videos to ensure that we can keep active and healthy during this time of isolation. These are some great ways to contribute towards the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity each day for children. The resources can be found at:
New videos, resources and also some small elements of competition will be uploaded every couple of weeks onto the website for you all to download, get involved and have fun during these tricky times.
Also, on the same website, there is a link to daily fun challenges set by each of the Dorset School Games Organisers which can be done in the confines of houses and gardens, without needing any specific sporting equipment. This is a great opportunity to get involved with fun, active tasks and challenges! Please be sure to send photos into school via the emails for each year group to show everybody what you have got up to and to share your successes!
*A special challenge set by the School Games Organisers will be sent to Sports Leaders very soon so look out for it!*
Have fun and keep active!
Miss Pasotti
