  • EY Festival of Colours

This event will take place on 13/03/2026

As part of learning in the Early Years, children are encouraged to recognise that people have different beliefs and celebrate special occasions in different ways. We support this by sharing and celebrating a range of practices and special events, such as Holi, Nowruz (Persian New Year), Hanami (Japanese cherry blossom festival) and Easter (a Christian festival), all of which fall within this half term.

This half term, as part of our learning and understanding of the world, the children will be exploring the festival of Holi, also known as the Festival of Colours. To complement this topic, the children will take part in a range of activities to learn about this important festival in the Sanatana Dharma (formerly known as Hinduism) calendar.

The children will learn about the traditions associated with these festivals and will take part in creative activities. On Friday 13th March, the children will have the opportunity to taste a selection of traditional Indian foods. We kindly ask for a £1 donation towards the cost of the food, which can be handed to your child’s class teacher by Friday 3rd March.

The topic will culminate in a colourful party during the afternoon, where the children will have fun participating in the ‘throwing of colour’. During this activity, water will be squirted and coloured powder paint thrown. We recognise that this is not the actual date of Holi; however, due to World Book Day, we feel there is only so much excitement we can have in one week!

For this event, we ask that children come to school wearing old clothes and appropriate footwear on Friday 13th March, as they are likely to get wet and messy. Please choose clothing that you do not mind getting dirty. If you collect your child by car, we recommend bringing a towel or seat covering.

If your child has any allergies (for example to food, powder paint or flour), please inform your child’s class teacher as soon as possible so that alternative arrangements can be made.

We are very much looking forward to this exciting week of learning. Further information can be found in this half term’s knowledge organiser, which outlines the topic and key vocabulary that will be shared. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to your child’s class teacher.

Thank you for your continued support in making this a memorable experience for the children.
