Key Stage 2 Reading and Home Learning Journals

I am delighted to let you know about the new Reading and Home Learning Journals, which have been distributed to all children in Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6).

The Reading and Home Learning Journals will promote independence, organisational skills and effective learning behaviours, as well as providing an extra line of communication between home and school. This will be a real bonus under our current circumstances, as parents will not be able to come onto the school site to chat to the teachers about pressing issues or concerns at the beginning and end of the day. Children will also be able to write reminders for themselves and take notes using the journals, as well as tracking their weekly reading opportunities. The journals also contain many useful pages relating to the curriculum and pastoral themes.

The funding for these journals has come courtesy of the Friends of Heatherlands, for which we are very grateful. They do represent a significant investment, and as such we would urge you to ensure that your child brings it to school every day and keeps it in good condition. If the journal is lost, we would expect parents to cover the cost of replacing it (£4 each).

I have made a video to explain all about the journals, which will be on the school Facebook page and website – please have a look. If you have any further queries or questions about the journals, please contact me via the school office and I will endeavour to answer them!

Wishing you all a very positive start to the new school year,

Jude Evans
