Year Two enjoyed a wonderful trip to Rossmore Library, where they explored the different sections, took part in an exciting scavenger hunt and shared a Julia Donaldson story together. The children walked beautifully to the library, putting into practice the road safety skills they had previously learned. This visit served as the perfect hook for our new topic this term, which focuses on the much‑loved author Julia Donaldson, and we hope to read as many of her books as we can. Throughout the rest of the day, the children immersed themselves in reading and creative story-based activities, using their imaginations to bring ideas to life.

Year 2 enjoyed a Great Fire of London drama day yesterday. They worked together to try to put the fire out using water from the River Thames and used fire hooks to pull down buildings. Eventually, they found out how to set a fire break and saw the impact of this when burning down the houses!

Over the past couple of weeks, the children have thoroughly enjoyed our exciting topic, The Great Escape. They had a fantastic drama day with the wonderful Mr Arrowsmith and have been learning to plan and perform ‘London’s Burning’ on the glockenspiel, even challenging themselves to compose an additional verse. As part of our learning about the Great Fire of London, the children designed their own cardboard houses and carried out a demonstration to explore how fires can spread and how fire breaks can help to stop a fire. Alongside this, they have worked incredibly hard in English this week, writing imaginative diary entries from the perspective of someone living in London in 1666, using excellent adjectives and adverbs to make their writing engaging. We are very proud of their creativity, enthusiasm, and effort throughout this topic.
