Road Safety Assembly for Years 5 and 6

This morning, our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils were joined by BCP for an engaging and informative road safety assembly, with a particular focus on cycle safety.

The children learned about the importance of always wearing a cycle helmet and how to ensure it fits correctly. They were shown that a helmet should sit level on the forehead, the straps should form a ‘V’ around the ears, and the helmet should be securely fastened so that it offers the best possible protection.

To demonstrate why helmets are so important, BCP carried out a memorable experiment using eggs to represent our heads. The children saw first-hand the difference a helmet can make in protecting us from the impact of a fall or collision.

The assembly also introduced the simple one-minute ABCD check that every cyclist should carry out before riding:

    • A – Air in the tyres
    • B – Brakes
    • C – Chain
    • D – Direction and Drop (checking the handlebars and saddle are secure and correctly adjusted)

By taking just one minute to complete these safety checks before every ride, cyclists can help prevent accidents and enjoy cycling safely.

We would like to thank BCP for delivering such a valuable and interactive session, helping our pupils to stay safe both on and off the road.
