Intent

At Heatherlands Primary School, we are committed to providing an enabling learning environment where children’s curiosity, confidence, and unique skills and talents are nurtured, regardless of their background, circumstances, or needs. We believe every child is unique and should be valued as such, fostering a love for learning through a rich and engaging curriculum where play and learning are seamlessly integrated. Our approach is underpinned by the Characteristics of Effective Learning: playing and exploring, where children investigate and experience things with enthusiasm; active learning, where they develop resilience and motivation to persist in the face of challenge; and creating and thinking critically, where they make connections, solve problems, and develop their own ideas.

We work collaboratively with families and our local school community to ensure every child has the best possible start to their educational journey. Our intent is that children in our EYFS develop physically, cognitively, and emotionally, while also developing their oracy skills and embedding a positive attitude to school and lifelong learning.

To ensure we are always providing the best possible education, we stay up to date with current pedagogy and best practices, ensuring that our teaching is innovative and relevant. We prioritise continuous professional development and staff training, which allows us to stay a step ahead, ensuring our teaching practices are consistently of the highest standard and that children receive the very best support for their growth and learning.
