Enjoying Learning Together
Our vision is for the pupils of Heatherlands to have high aspirations and to strive to be the best that they can be whilst making a positive contribution to the school community and beyond. We believe these values define our cultural capital and that our children can draw upon these values to give them an advantage in social life.

The school is committed to providing every child with the best start in life, aiming to instil high aspirations, resilience, motivation, respect and independence in its children. These five core values, known as 'The Heatherlands Way’, form the foundation for the children to support their future success in education, personal development and social life. These values are underpinned by the vision that all the pupils at Heatherlands have high aspirations and strive to be the best they can be while positively contributing to the school community and beyond. There is a powerful team ethos and all staff, whatever their role or responsibility, are committed to achieving this vision and often go ‘above and beyond’ to achieve these aims and goals.
The school is right to take great pride in the children's spiritual, moral, cultural, personal, social and emotional development.
All ideas from staff, children and families are respected and included in this work, which confirms that the ‘Heatherlands Way Values’ are part and parcel of this successful, friendly school.
Through the revised Relationships and Managing Positive Behaviour Policy, there is a collective model for managing behaviour. High expectations of behaviour are set and much focus and time are invested in developing key relationships with children to establish clear boundaries and expectations in classrooms and across the wider school. Teachers always praise the positives that children demonstrate.
The school uses restorative practices and coaching techniques to rebuild relationships and get children to understand their actions in a supportive and positive manner. The very small number of children who continually disrupt others learning in and out of class are subject to a Report Card and continually monitored and supported during their time ‘On Report’. They are encouraged to make positive choices. The school works very closely with families and outside agencies to prevent exclusions.
The efforts made to develop children’s personal and character development are exemplary and exemplified by many interesting and unique approaches and opportunities.
The staff continues to encourage and guide all children to become responsible and caring young people. The school is rightfully proud of this aspect of its provision and is continuously striving to improve.
